  • Front brake clunk

    Hi all
I have noticed for a while that when I press the brake pedal After the car has been sitting overnight I can hear a loud clunk coming from the front brakes (the car has been started) i have changed the pads about 6 months ago. To me it sounds like the calipers pushing on the pads, but I could be wrong. This only happens when cold. Any ideas?

    Thanks Brett

    Mine did that too.
Now I think it has gone way after I changed rotors to DBA slotted 4wd rotors.

Mine does this too, when reversing touch the brake and get a click/clunk sound when cold.
          Cheers.

mine does the same, even after changing to DBA and new brak pads.
would be nice to know the reason.

Went to mechanics today, he seems to think it is only the pads sliding inside the caliper. I asked about the ABS but he didn't think it would be that. this certainly doesn't reduce braking ability so at this stage I'm not to concerned. I hope this helps others with the same problem.

Hi All - yup, my 2009 does it as well - clunk from front when reversing - but not just when cold. Has done it since new, and 2 dealers have told me they all do it.

                          Hi All,
I have just had Toyota tell me that this is clunk from the brakes is normal all the Prado's do it.
They also said it could be fixed but will take 1.5 hours and is not covererd under warranty?
I think they are exaggerating with the truth, Is this clunk really that common?

                          Regards
                          Dave

This complaint keeps popping up on the forum. Yes, it's perfectly normal. Just the front pads moving slightly when you reverse. Nothing to worry about.

I was hoping this was ok, also with Toyotas explanation this did make sense
