  • Front brake pads rattle?

Hello everyone. I recently purchased a 04 VX 5 speed petrol as a replacement for my 90 series. It had 106k on it one owner etc. There is a distinct rattle from front end on bumpy roads but it goes away with light brake application. As soon as brake released and hit next bump there is the rattle again. Me mechanic said the pads 'drop in' and the pins the hold them in place have movement in them but he said they are not worn? Has anyone else experienced this or anything similar? Any advice appreciated. Regards. Jiimel06.

Just check that it's not a loose wheel weight - that's what mine was recently.....

Do you have a sovereign bar if so check the splash guards on each corner
They are made of thin metal and can rattle

ok first up an apology to you new guys . i just tried using the search engine and once again it is absolutely and utterly useless . guys this is how you find info on this site . go into BRAKES 120 section , scroll down to the thread display option box and click on from THE BEGINNING and then in the next box in accending or decending order and hit show threads . this will take you to the absolute wealth of info that is hidden away in this site . you do the same in any section that you want to search on pretty much any subject or problem you may have . but i will condense it for you . the brake pad rattle is perfectly normal on a 120 its just what they do . if they don't rattle then your caliper pistons have probably seized and are not working properly . have fun reading all the info . sorry for chewing you out

Could also be as simple as rocks caught on the bash plates. Mine was, took the service dude for a drive and he could not identify the noise, but showed me small handful of rocks he pulled out that were caught between the bash plate and crossmember...

Hello Kav. Just went back to 'The Beginning' following your instructions... well, there are pages and pages of people with same/similar problems. I have plenty of reading ahead but so far it just seems to be a Toyota trait, good or not... thanks for the advice. Regards Jiimel06.

Do your brake pads have the backing plate on them?
