  • Bendix 4WD Pads

I've installed Bendix 4WD brake pads due the amount of dirt road and outback driving we do with a caravan in tow, and they are a much better feel than the OEM pads, and I hope they last longer.......we'll see

I also decided to give them a try and also prefer them to oem.

My D4D has just had a brake pad change. Removed the OEM pads after 95,000 kms. Still some pad left. The brakes where pretty good but after replacement with Bendix 4x4 pads all round the brakes went to sensational. Very happy with the new pads, excepting for a brief squeal when first touching the peddle. No idea what can cause this noise. Anyone ever found this problem?

Normally a chamfer just on the edges of the pads before fitting them will stop that annoying squeal. Its just the very outer edge of the pads touching the face of the disc rotor before the full face of the pad. I have been using bendix in all cars/4wd's for years. The original pads are shocking for brake dust so you will notice a big difference there as well. I'm going to replace in the 120 (still factory pads 130k) but also fit slotted rotors as well. I was told replacing brake lines with braided ones also helps as the original ones bulge out under pressure but I'm not going the bother with brake lines......Cheers Steve

Am waiting for the next service and will be replacing the pads (and maybe rotors)at the 150kms service.Still running the original pads all around.
If from everyone else's responses the bendix live up to the hype.

On the 120 I went for bendix pads and DBA rotors and it was a marked improvement in braking and feel. When the time comes on the 150 I will be doing the same thing.

Just an update on my experience with these. After several 1000km I noticed that sometimes they need to get some heat into them before they work 100% - looking on the net, I'm not the only one to have found this. It didn't stop me from fitting them on the rear as well.

Yup got this too when I had mine swapped over. Haven't heard it in a while. Either I've stopped noticing it, or its receeded over time.

MLC my mechanic told me about the chamfering of the edge of the pads as my first 90 series was bad for that initial squeal when first dabbing the brake pedal. The braided lines I have no idea where you would purchase them as I never bothered to look into it as I don't intend changing them over but I have read that on here and other forums in regards to giving better pedal pressure.... Disc rotors I'm just buying from my local brake n clutch shop here in penrith slotted only not drilled and slotted... Cheers Steve

I have had that annoying squeal from my front left pads from new. 70,000KS later and its getting somewhat worse.

Toyota refused to rectify under warranty but the dealer was happy to sicaflex the pads to the pistons or to that affect as their diagnostic was the calliper vibrates at a fast rate causing the squealing sound.

I just put up with it and pump the pedal that usually stops it but as I said it's getting a little worse as time goes on.

Maybe I should chamfer the pads.

I doubt there will be any gain from braided lines but if you decide to go that way make sure you get ADR approved lines.

Squeal seems to have gone. Perhaps the pads where just "bedding" in. Not a problem with the brakes when cold either. Very, very pleased! Thanks for replies.
