  • Brake Pulsating like ABS

    Hi Everyone

We have a 2004 120 Series GXL TD. It has travelled 63,000km.

We have a brake problem that Toyota seem unable to solve and I am hoping that someone out there can help us out.

We you apply the brakes under normal driving conditions the brakes give a pulsating through the brake pedal like as if the ABS has kicked in. No ABS light comes on. There is no vibration through the steering wheel. There is no trouble code coming up on the computer system. The brakes don't do this every time they are applied but often enough to cause some concern.

So far Toyota has replaced the front disk pads, machined the front and rear disks but still the problems remains. I am getting very frustrated about this.

Has anyone heard of this problem and or have any other ideas for a solution.

    Cheers
    Stan

Maybe on a quet road jump on the brakes to see that the ABS is actually working the fault light or other may be faulty itself so the prblem is not showing also the dealer should be able to connent the computer to see last when the ABS was activated if it showing it is on all the time ther is another way of diagnosing problem
Dont list all ya mods, you will only be more upset when i get further

Are you SURE? they have machined the rear disks?
I had a very similar problem which was resolved when the rear disks were machined.

      Just a thought.

I spoke to Stan the other day when he came down for a visit. I think the problem ended up being a faulty wheel sensor that was triggering the ABS.

He had it replaced and I think all is ok now. I will ask the next time we speak.

          Re: Brake Pulsating like ABS

I live in Spain and have had a 3 litre 90 auto from new 9 yrs ago. Best car ever but now being driven(literraly) mad. under heavy braking there is a huge shudder, steering wheel and dashboard vibrating very quickly. Had new rotors and pads fitted, made no real difference, I now have pulled the fuse on the ABS and think its not so bad now. At my wits end, can anyone help

I know this may sound stupid but have checked your wheel nut tension .My local dopy tyre shop over tightened my wheel
nuts which caused my brakes to shudder once reset shudder gone .You find most modern cars are very sensitive to this
            just ask commodore owners.
