  • Brake Pedal Pulsating

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone had experienced a pulsating on the brake pedal when braking. It has been doing it for about a year and since starting have had both front and rear brakes and rotors replaced as they were at end of life but the pulsing has remained. Any suggestions? Many thanks for any ideas.

The main thing that causes pulsation or shudder is D.T.V. (disc thickness variation)
Common issue on the prados, usually the rear rotors I find.
The right machining or good quality new rotors should fix it.
Once you have DTV, in service/use it usually only gets worse.
If you could machine it out, or to a very low spec, & you don't have any other causes, like below, you won't get it back.

Other causes can be over tightening wheel nuts.
    Caliper problems
    Poor quality rotors
    Washing or wetting hot rotors
    Bent axle/hub
    Etc

You need to use a dial inducator & measure the run out n the rotors

      Don't forget loose wheel bearings.

Rally cars that do a high speed down hill section often come into control with the disks glowing red.

If they stop with their foot on the brake it usually ends in a warped disk due to uneven cooling. If they are on a hill and cant release the brakes, many drivers will back up a metre or two and slowly roll forward and then repeat.

I have smelt very hot Prado brakes but never actually seen the glowing red.

The other thing is the ABS if you are braking heavily.

No it actually only really occurs when braking lightly - goes away when braking heavily - I tried braking heavily this morning just to check the ABS was still functioning - still works a treat

            Thanks

l get them checked out when I have the vehicle serviced next - I also had a thought that I fitted a brake controller last year that may have been around the time it commenced but not sure - thank you again
