    Re: Anyone upgraded their brakes?

Judging by the pictures this Prado doesn't get much bush time up. My rims are already scratched and have only just clocked 10,000km with about 60% of that pushing the weeds and crushing beetles. Unless, there is a easy way of polishing the bloody things.

      Update,

I have had the DBA's on for about 2 months now. The grab on them is awesome. My main problem with the standard rotors and pads was the brake pedal fade especially when towing the car trailer with a full load. Haven't had the pedal go soft on these yet.

The most bush time it gets is when I park it on the nature strip at home ops: - However that is soon to change.

Is that an RX-3 I see?

Had a 2 door way, way back in 1977 that was a real rocket. Lost it in a roll - over on the way south from Townsville at about 125mph. Mate was driving and I was asleep. I have never slept in a moving vehicle since.

              Re: Anyone upgraded their brakes?

I cannot believe how good the standard brakes are on the Prado, I took out a Disco 3 owner and showed him how good they are, he was gobsmacked, the brakes in the DIsco 3 are apparently dire!!

I must be missing something, some guys have mentioned that the standard brakes are good for 2-3 serious stops but then go off. . . . . . . WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU GUYS DOING DOWN THERE THAT REQUIRES MORE THAN 2-3 SERIOUS STOPS????!!!!!!!

              Cheers,

              Ian.

We don't all drive like little old ladies..... there's nothing like giving it a bit of stick in the twisty bits once you hit the dirt. (dirt is that stuff that isn't black and called a motorway  )

Sometimes you even see another vehicle, unlike the Motorways where the speed limit is 70mph but the average day is spent crawling from one junction to another.

Although last year in late November I recall coming back down the A9 at 70mph and having only the occasional car or truck to spot. Scotland in November, for a Brisbane boy it was cold.

It is just that the Prado does not inspire the same level of confidence in the twisty bits. ops:

Adrian there must be something wrong. I have fitted cross drilled and slotted DBA gold rotors (slotted out of stock at the time) and Bendix pads front and rear and the pedal is firmer than before and brakes wonderful compared to stock. Does sound like air in the system but unless you disconnected the calipers that shouldn't be an issue. You said that you bled the brakes, if there was any air in there I would take it to a brake specialist asap. Bleeding ABS systems can be tricky. Did you fit new pads to the rear without machining the discs? If the discs are scored you can get no feel and no stopping power if the pads can't grip the disc.

hey i have not bled the brakes yet, but we fitted new rotors and pads all round, after i fitted them we got on the brakes alot to bed them in i think i was very hard on them as the day after if feels alot better, but i will still bleed them, thanks.
