The bendix pads don't need any special bedding in. Maybe they did get too hot, are the rotors discoloured?

          Re: Anyone upgraded their brakes?

          Hi All,

After reading this topic with interest, has anyone fitted the DBA Rotors to a 2008 Prado? If so, which ones and what are they like?

I ask this as I nearly rear-ended a vehicle at 70kms/h on the Geelong Road in Brooklyn when 4 lanes merge into 3 lanes and a lady just stopped leaving my no-where to go.
I was pumping my brakes and and the ABS seem to fail.

I ended up inches from a nearby tree after mounting the curb.

I reported this to my Toyota Dealer at my next service and they bled my brakes and check the Discs and Pads, and all ok.

Need advice as I am now reviewing my options with the DBA Rotors and Bendix Pads.

Stuart mine's an 08. No problems. DBA rotors up front and Bendix pads front and rear (standard discs just machined). Huge improvement over standard but it still wont make a 2.6t 4wd stop like a sports car. My other drive is an E2 R8 Clubsport and I have to brake much more conservatively in the Prado but the Prado IS a diesel 4wd and is driven accordingly.

              Hi mjrandom,

Which Rotors did you fit? There are a few to choose from.

                Re: Anyone upgraded their brakes?

I would fit Lucas or Ferodo pads before bendix, I run Lucas in the Jackaroo.

I reckon easiest and cheapest brake improvement is to fit good aftermarket pads and get your brake fluid flushed every service. Just to keep thing simple, I buy a bottle of Castrol Super Response DOT 4 on special about $8.00 and at every service have them flush my brakes on all my cars.
As far as I am concerned brake fluid and pads are cheap and a firm pedal is so nice and replacing rotors is a pain and not really necessary unless they are worn ( unless you have specific needs or are racing ). Castrol Super response DOT 4 is a good fluid for the price, withstand temp up to 280C. As a rule standard rotors are fine, you just need good pads.

Replaced mates rotors with dba (792,793)on his 90 series a little while ago, it appears that the original pads are too hard and wear the rotor too much. He now runs ferodo 4wd pads and he gets them flushed at every service.
I got a dpa catalogue here for Prado 120 it is 2700front 793rear.
Prado 150 is not listed in my copy

I went to school with a bloke with runs a brake/clutch shop and we have played around a bit with brakes.
In the WRX have tried bendix ultimate in the past, but changed to Ferodo DS2500, when I did the odd track day ( they squeal a bit and hopeless when cold). Then settled on formula ferodo, which I still use in the Liberty, is what used to be known as DS 2000. If you can get DS Performance, which is essentially the same as DS 2000 plus it has a protective thermal layer, even better. Both are excellent for road use and spirited drives with some track use and you need to really be pushing to get them to fade. Will just about guarantee you cannot do that on the road, I have tried ops: . The Liberty didn`t run out of brakes around Sandown. They are also kind to rotors. Far better then bendix anything
stepped up the a 200 LC for towing,
but had a 2012 and 2010 150 Prado GXL auto diesel in Graphite with Bridgestone D697 A/T. Dobinson C59-300/325 and Bilsteins. Accessories : two baby seats. Sidewinder`s Dual Battery isolator and rear power outlet kit. Pirana Battery tray, Hayman Reese towbar with Toyota wiring kit and Brains`s guard.

                  Re: Anyone upgraded their brakes?

Stuart I fitted DBA gold rotors (slotted/cross drilled) but only because there was no available stock of the slotted only rotors and I bought them for the same price as the slotted discs.

                  viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4024&start=20

The Bendix pads have been fine so far (10,000+ km) bearing in mind it is a 4wd. I have run a variety of pads on different vehicles (including semi metallic) and I agree no one pad is the best brand but for what we do in the Prado the Bendix are satisfactory. I know a number of people now whose standard Prado rotors have warped and given that the Toyota rotors are as expensive as DBA slotted I see no reason not to go for a better rotor. I get my brake fluid flushed every 2 years on all my cars but every service seems to me to be overkill especially on a 90 which has a service nominally every 5,000 km! Guess it depends on how much driving you do.

Not saying that there aren't better combinations out there but for me the DBA/Bendix front and Toyota/Bendix rear does the job in a 120 Prado. FWIW I replaced Brembo rotors with DBA 5000 series a force fed Ford and the DBA rotors were far better than the standard Brembos and about 1/3 the price of one Brembo rotor.

                    Re: Anyone upgraded their brakes?

oops, I am thinking more like every service interval on the Subaru ie when its at 12500km. Still if you use your brakes a lot every 12 month is not unreasonable.
Bendix isnt bad, but ever since they went to non asbestos friction material, they have not been as good us others. Hence my preference to Lucas and Ferodo.
Compfriction in Canberra are a great place for info on various brake pads, they know there stuff and can cut pads to suit.

Just upgraded my brakes to DBA slotted rotors and bendix 4x4 pads... light braking there isn't really a noticable difference but medium/heavy braking is now 100% better. Took me about 4 hours to do the front and rear + bleed brakes.

Old Pads had worn very thin after 68k!

                      Installed

                      Bendix pads very meaty!
