Rattly rear brakes

Hi guys, got a tricky one for you. I have a auto V6 Prado 120, and I love it but it has an awfull rattle that comes from the rear brakes, both sides....

It's a tinkle as opposed to a thud type rattle, when I go over bumps, however if I pull the hand-brake on (only just) the rattle stops, so me thinks its to do with the hand brake side of things, but it seems I need to remove the axle to see all the H-B parts.

Has anyone had this happen to them? and what was the outcome?

It’s just a rattle but it drives me mad, the car is usually so quiet so it is quite noticeable and a little embarrassing..

Any help will be much appreciated.

but it seems I need to remove the axle to see all the H-B parts.

You only need to remove the caliper (2x Bolts, leave the hydraulic line connected, cable tie the caliper out the way) and remove the disc/drum (slip on) to expose the hand brake.

Another possability is that the rear pad anti rattle shims have a metal tab on them that acts as a wear indicater and this may be rubbing the disc face and it sounds a bit like a tinnie rattle

Thanks guys, I checked it out and it was the handbrake that needed adjusting. It was all very loose, I’m not surprised it was all rattly.
I also have a question about shocks as well, but I'll ask that in the appropriate place.
