After all my recent dealings with wheel alignment and CV boot replacement - I noticed my front right wheel making a humming sound - deteriorating to a low grinding sound occasionally under brakes. I took it straight back to Toyota with my suspicions as to what it could be.
After the service guy tried to tell me that it has nothing to do with the work they had just done (even though it was the front right and that's where they were working) I convinced him to pop it up on the hoist and take a look.
The stone guard on the back of the disc had been bent - most likely by a mechanic whilst working on the CV boot - and was glancing against the disc under certain conditions. Easily fixed.
These are quite light and easily flexed. Something to keep an eye on - particularly after work has been done on the front end.
Drew.
