Pulsating Brake - Warranty?

Hi Guys,

Recently purchased a 2006 (non D4D) silver GXL (80 000km)- stock at present, not looking to add too many extras except roof rach and non winch bar.....maybe a rear fold table and annex for beach work..maybe a.... :roll:

But love the site - gave me many good hours of reading up to, and after purchasing our new beast.

A question though - and I have seen a similar thread, but did not ask this specific question.

We have a 3mth warranty from the dealer so need to figure this out soon.

On the RACQ report it stated "slightly pulsating brake pedal". I didn't think this was issue at the time.

Now from reading a few threads here is this something which you guys think is an "issue" relating to the ABS sensors etc and as such should I lodge this under warranty?

or is this an age issue and happens eventually to all of them?

I would suggest that you have warped front brake disks. They will generally occur when the disks are hot and you hold down the brake pedal for extended time, or when going through a car wash with hot disks (or hosing down). Warranty should cover this if you are quick, before they accuse you of doing it.

Yup warped rotors and I'd say no warranty as brakes are classified as a wear and tear item

I would have to disagree (in NSW anyway), see the following:

I don't know if it happens on the Prado but on Commodores you will get warped rotors if wheels nuts are tightened with a rattle gun not using tourque adaptors.

Interesting how ever reading the original post he had an RACQ inspection which called it out so in this case caveat emptor

In my view, if the RACQ was done prior to purchase or during the warranty period, it supports a claim under warranty for rectification. It's best to contact your state regulator and seek advice before the warranty expires.

Will have to contact the powers that be here in Qld and see what they say.

It is an interesting one as when the dealer had the RACQ inspection done and handed the us the report, the only thing mentioned was "slight pulsating brake".

When I asked the dealer about this (as I am no mechanic) he then said - "it's nothing to worry about".

So it may be buyer beware, as it was stated on the report, but then asking the question of the dealer you would expect that they would have a duty of care to disclose if it really is more than "nothing to worry about".

It is only very minor in the first 1-2 inches of pushing the pedal, but I'm just aware that sometimes the little things can lead to big expensive problems.

Hi Bulimba.

The Shaking Brakes a not a big issue apart from being annoying and cause unnecesary tire wear.

Just had my rotors machined because of the same issue. I initially just had the front done which took the shudder out of the steering but not out of the car. I've just had the rear rotors done and its as good as new.

The guy at the brake shop told me if you can feel it in the steering wheel its your front brakes if you can feel in your seat its your rear brakes. cost about $500 all up. incl new pads.
