  • Front/Rear brake wear

I ve owned my 2006 Prado for the past 8 years.. Initially I used to change my front brakes each 10K KM ( they would be worm out) three times before changing the rear ones.. In the last couple of years, the trend has changed to changing the rear ones every 10K and changing the front at 30-35K...

Righ/Left sides wear evenly hence I did not investigate a piston seizure unless iy happened to two sides simultaneously.. does the fact that I changed rear discs ( non OEM) affect this?

I live in a mountainous area and always going downhill and use the brakes continuously..

    Appreciate your thoughts

Wow you go through brakes fast. Hard to say about the rotors you’ve chosen effecting this if that’s what you meant by “disc.” Do you get warped rotors often from the brakes getting so hot? For your situation I’d be using slotted & dimpled rotors for all 4 wheels. They should reduce brake temps & help your brakes & rotors last longer. I go up and down a long steep mountain range every day and those rotors are a better performer over the standard type. My Bendix pads still last up to 60-70,000km. They wear at about the same rate front to rear. So close I can’t tell if one is wearing quicker than the other. I also use the auto gears (2nd sometimes 3rd) to help keep the car from running away on me. I know how to flush the ATF myself so no probs for me to flush fluid at earlier intervals as a result of this.

Oh yeah I get warped rotors... I suffer from this very often...unfortunately i cant find slotted rotors in this part of the world. Every how long to you flush the ATF? I do it every 20,000 KM.. I learned it the hard way...

        Every 50-60,000km. A full
        flush of 11 litres.
