4 Spd auto trans coolers

G'day gang,
Well should be picking up my 05 TD auto tomorrow, ( meaning I am a new member and what a fantastic forum it is ) previously and yet to be sold is my TD5 Discovery manual 5spd SLS rear suspension. Hoping someone can spread a little light on wether or not the standard trans cooler is sufficient or are people fitting aditional coolers.

G'day Bruce and welcome to the forum,

I can't talk for the 1KZ-TE engined vehicle with the 350 (4 speed) 'box, but my 1GR-FE (4.0L V6) with the 750 (5 speed) 'box keeps it's head when towing my 1500kg camper trailer. I've towed 100s or km with ambient outside air temp in the high 30s without any problems.

I don't have a transmission oil temp gauge and the SGII doesn't show that data - but the A/T TEMP annunciator has never shown.

I have a 03 TD auto and have had no problem at all with the gearbox temp, I have towed a Coromal camper (1500kgs approx ) across the country and not had a drama.

I managed to get my Trans O/T (Over temp) light on on a very soft beach, (12 kms) once I had dropped pressures it was fine.
