I had a Lock-Right http://powertrax.com/powertrax/lockright.html in the front of my GQ. You could tell it was there with the hubs locked in but it was awesome in the bush, you could climb anything.

There is a distributor in Melbourne for the Lock Right lockers. $405 for the Prado rear diff.

Can someone elaborate on any complications on fitting this sort of locker to a Grande?

AMTS, This will be my next project... Have considered these for a while for the rear and can really only find praise for them. Yes they can't be activated/deactivated as needed and can produce a little noise on slow corners but $$$ vs application they seem great value.

This is the info I gained from 4WDsystems over the past week.

There are 2 versions. One for the LSD diff ($499) and one for the non-LSD diff ($399). If I'm not mistaken, the cars with traction control has the non-LSD diff.

There are no models for the manual transmission.

The model from Toptraction a few posts back is for the LSD diff.

AMTS, should be no problems with a Grande. No difference in the diff setup to a GXL.

That is incredibly cheap. I know the design is quite simple but that is still cheap.

Any explanation given for this? Both manual and auto diffs seem to share the same Toyota part number: 41110-3D390 (for 4.1 ratio)

Very odd. Only difference between auto and manual is probably the amount of torque that could be instantly applied to the diff. Maybe that's it...

I've heard that with constant 4WD's that u can't or shouldn't put one in the front aswell as in the rear..... They should mainly go in the REAR. A mate has one in his 80's GXL (It's a Detroit BRand but they are all similiar) and he can't hear it or notice it all when driving around the streets.... He had to remove his Front Drive Shaft fora while to get it balanced and this is when he really noticed it chirping around corners, etc. The previous owner of his 80's did apparently try putting one in the front as well, but he ended up destroying the Front Diff (or it moght have damaged the T'fer Case... not on this)... this was when he was told u can't run a Front & Rear one in a constant 4WD.....

I would certainly consider one as I've heard a number of problems with people losing air, etc the ARB lockers..... What about a Electrical Operated Locker from Harrops In Vic??

I got an email back from Tom at 4WD Systems last night.
They quoted me $440 delivered and as an indication of what to be charged they install for $375.
Simple to fit for most workshops or do it yourself within about 3.5 hours.
Dont know if Id want to do it myself though.
