  • My 2008 VX D4D has an Auto Trans vibration when cold in gear

    Hello

Im Just new to this site having just bought my first 2008 VX D4D Auto Prado after having a 1998 Hilux surf for many years.

I have just had my Prado for 1 week after getting it second hand with 112,000km from a Toyota dealer.

When then car is cold and on a down hill right hand angle the car seems to have a massive vibration / shudder that appears to be from the Auto as when i put it into N it goes away. It also happens when parked down hill and the auto is in reverse and then she vibrates badly again and is not present when i shift back into N.

I took it into another Toyota dealer today and they said it would be dirty fluid so they replaced it and it made no difference.

I gave it right back to them and told em to sort it out! (luckily i got the 3 year extended Toyota warranty)

I noticed a few other people have asked about this but i haven’t found any solutions after skimming through the 200 plus threads on here.

I would really appreciate any ones input into what this can be, or things to try out my self as im some how starting to think the Toyota mechanics are not sure what they are doing either as i asked if they take autos apart and they said no they take them to the auto shop down the road.

    Thanks heaps

    Paul

I think I may be getting the beginings of the same thing. I am going ot get them to check the engine mounts. - and I'm only a month out of warranty

Ive noticed this happening to me, though I wouldn't say its massive vibration. Three times in last couple of weeks I get a vibration when the trans is cold/cool and under load (stopped at a corner in Drive).

I thought I may have bashed the exhaust too hard and cracked a gasket somewhere but that wouldn't explain why when I accelerate slightly the vibration disappears. Its almost as if the engine is 'missing' and running on three cylinders?

I'm going to check the exhaust and engine mounts tonight, anyone else have any ideas?

Interesting that all three of us are driving 2008's with the D4D and auto trans...

My truck is still at dealer but they have now stated that yes engine mounts are the problem. apparently they are replacing them with aftermarket (still Toyota) ones that are different then the original ones which can cause problems. The mechanic first said the engine mounts looked ok but now says they are not broken but somehow touch or something? I hope to get the truck back tomorrow so i can let you all know how it goes. They are replacing them as part of the extended 3 year warranty. NICE

Back to the dealer today as the vibration is constant, apparantly Toyota are on the 3rd version of the new mounts. They have no idea why i have this vibration, very annoying, mine is a 2008 D4D auto and Toyota reckon 150 series are also having issues, " OH WHAT A FEELING "
