Clunk when stopping

Hi all I have just purchased an 07 GXL V6 auto with 125000k and am absolutely loving the step up in comfort, power, space and everything else after driving an Xtrail for nearly 7 years.

My issue is that I have noticed when coming to a stop eg traffic lights, the car intermittantly makes a clunk felt through the entire vehicle. This happens just before coming to a complete stop. My guess as a Mitsubishi mechanic is that the auto is either pre-selecting 1st gear or is downshifting harshly. Has anyone else experienced anything similar from the 5spd auto?

A common problem is the tailshaft clunking as the torque changes/engages/disengages. The clunk is noticeable on stop or sometines start just before pressing accelerator.

I am dealing with mine through warranty. Some reports say greasing up (BUT not overdoing it) gives results. There are heaps of threads on it.

No worries, we all have to start somewhere

When you do search for something, be aware that the inbuilt search facility isn't that good but using Google and including pradopoint.com in the search string is much better.
