how to tell if 4 or 5 speed

hi all
am looking at buying a prado but am finding how to tell if its a 4 speed or 5 a bit hard. i found around aug 04 was when the 5 came in but not all cars listed online show the build date.
is it a matter of the dash layout and if 3 is opposite the d it is a 4 speed and same but a 4 is a 5 speed - or do i have this theory totally wrong
hope someone can help out so i can get in and buy one quick then utilise this site to set it up

For the 5 speed auto you will see on the dash and the gear lever a 4 and then the D to the left of the 4. The you D is the 5th gear.
