  • Flapping wheel noise

I've recently noticed a flapping/clicking sort of noise coming from the front wheel area (or surrounds). It can only be heard above 70km/h and is quite faint (I can only hear it if I'm driving next to a concrete barrier on the freeway). The sounds speeds up with increased speed and persists even if I put it in Neutral gear. Any ideas? Nothing seems loose and it's not humming as though wheel bearing noise. Also I have BFG AT tyres, could it be the tryes? Sounds unlikely

Check for rocks/pebbles caught up between the tread of the tyres.

Have your mates been playing funny buggers? Check your tailshaft for cable ties. Had it happen before.

Hey 4WD. A bit off topic but....... I was at a workshop shout many years back and saw an apprentice scoot out and wack a bloody great truck wheel weight on the inside of his mates front wheel - you can imagine the carry-on when he went down the road! Cheers, Derb.

no luck noise still there, anyone else with some ideas?

Definately not any rocks in tyres. It can be heard when the noise bounces of a concrete barrier or kerb (which makes me think the noise is low to the ground).

Sure it's not the characteristic ticking noise from the V6 manifold?

.... next to a concrete barrier. Do let us know when you are about to undertake this experiment so we can notify the appropriate authorities should you not return to post on PP with the results after 48 hours.
