  • How to pour oil into Transmission and Transfer case

Anyone got any recommendations for a method to pour oil into the transmission and transfer case?

I have a 1 liter pump bottle that advertised itself as a suitable tool but really it is too small and requires way too many pumps.

I was thinking that a couple of metres of tubing that fits inside the filler hole and on the other end a funnel so that I can just pour the oil in. Wadd'ya think?

    thanks
    Gavin

I agree with Matt. I have had a Tom Thumb pump for over ten years. They are reasonably cheap and last forever. The thread on the top also fits most brands of 1 litre oil bottles which is handy.

I agree that you do have to pump for quite a while, but really, it isn't that hard a task. They are a very handy bit of gear for taking away on trips as well. I pack mine up in a plastic bag and stuff in under the seat, just in case.

          Hey Gavx,
I have a different method since Autobarn was sold out of tom thumbs last time I did a service.
I grabbed a gravity flow type funnel, it has a snap on cover at the top of a clear funnel and a tap attatched to the bottom.
So you fill the funnel, holds just over a litre snap the lid on then attach a piece of hose the tap and you can then control the flow of fluid easily and the lid while not a perfect seal is good for stopping any major drips.
