  • fitting a separate transmission oil cooler

reading posts on the transmision cooler thats inside the rad failing give me the fear. so in the interests of not killing my autobox, do you think it would be worthwhile fitting a separate transmission oil cooler? there's plenty of space in front of the rad.

    any thoughts on the matter?

Normally it's not needed unless you do a lot of towing or slow driving where there is little air flow. Not sure what sort of temperatures you get overseas. In Australia we see lots of hot weather in summer usually around 35C and higher, once you get into central Aust 45C+ is not uncommon.

Every other 4x4 auto I have purchased over the years has had an external cooler fitted with the factory towbar. I'd be surprised if the Prado didn't have it as standard when ordered with a towbar.

Matt do you know the specs of the temp range for these boxes?
It would be interesting to know how much they increase in temp under load 8)

        Pradogxlv6,

Looking forward to your report then!

I've been thinking about this for a long time but never got around to buying the gauge.

        Cheers
