  • Driveshaft reco.

Both my front drive shaft boots are split and leaking so I've been hunting around for the best option. I've read herr about going the original Toyota ones, after market ones and the Repco ones however after talking to one 4wd specialist here in Melb they said they send them off for reco and then replace the boots with original Toyota boots as they recon they are the most durable. All for just under $1000 for both including labour. That's what I'd expected.
However has anyone got an opinion about reco them?
Have any of you guys used the cheaper aftermarket ones?
With all the new developments in Silicon I would have thought someone would have come out with tougher aftermarket boots.
    Cheers.

Thanks for the reply. Ive read alot of your posts and Learnt alot from them. I've seen the Gsp drive shafts, do you rate them better than a reco original with original boots? I have read that the non original shafts do not handle lifted front ends as well.
Would love to here from someone that has replaced their drive shafts with the Gsp that have a lift in their vehicle and have had them in for awhile.

I have had the GSPs for about 30K now with a 40mm lift, no probs yet. That seems to be a pretty good price for them. You could price check CBC as that is where I got mine, but at that stage I think they cost me about $220 ea up here. Double check the outer joint dust seal that goes into the back of the hub, they seem to enjoy drop testing these onto the floor and bending the seal backing plate; might be a reason to go to CBC if the price is close so you can check it for yourself. If you insist they supply a replacement seal they simply beat it off another shaft and f#*k it up just as badly! Some of the human race seem to be devolving to their primate ancestry. Take your old shafts and get some decent cv's and boots and rebuild them at your leisure, coz I doubt you will get better shafts than the originals. I recall someone telling me that GSP made a lot of the OEM stuff anyway.
      cheers
