Well guys, went to my dealer today explained the problem as above, he knew exactly what i was talking about and told me they are replacing the splines with a new design has a "rounder edge or something" which doesn't clunk. Within 5 minutes he had placed the order and printed out a docket. Told me it would probably be three weeks as he was sure the parts are still coming from Japan and when he books it in he will organise the a loan car for the day. SCI FLEET brissy "great service"

Drew, all under warranty as the car is only 6 weeks old, the part has arrived already and booked in for the 21st, complete with courtesy car for the day.

            Hey Matt

It's not funny, it would really piss me off - and mine is salary packaged ..

... but did they react badly to the Lanotec on the underneath ??

It's a right pain in the butt when you spend so much time getting it neat and tidy for them and they don't seem to take any care.

I won't take mine to the local dealer (just around the corner). I drive another 50 Ks and take it to a dealer that seems to give rats.

Glad to hear they found the noise.

            Cheers

                Hey Matt

You made me cringe with the pics of the scrathes. Its' nightmare stuff.
I'm paranoid at the best of times. May have sit and watch they do my next service.

Make sure you have the paint repair work checked thoroughly. I had a brand new F100 ute some years ago and I noticed up a very small bump in the bonnet and I made sure they fixed it before I took delivery. Looked fine when I picked it up.

About 4 months later (while on our around Oz working holiday and about 1900km away from the dealer) I was merrily cleaning the mess from a plague of grashoppers off my bullbar with a high pressure hose. I hit the front of the bonnet with the spray and ........................ Wooooosh a piece of paint flies off. I had no real success with the dealer and could not easily travel back to sort out.

Ended costing me a whole bonnet respray. I'll think twice before I get a patch job done for such a small item without good advice.

Hope it all works itself out Matt. Man, i'm still shaking at the thought of the scratches.

                  Matt
Well done with the searching and prognosis. You nailed it.

U just gotta luv forums such as this. A bit of sharing of knowledge and advice goes a looooong way to helping solve probs the EXperts can find.
Will be interested in your follow up.

I'm wondering how come the fuel sender unit is still working in the base of the tank, or is it working?

                  Cheers

Jees Matt, your starting to get me worried.

I know mine's a 2nd hand unit but its really neat and has been well looked after.

I'm approaching week 5 of ownership and I get the occasional 'tapped up the arse' noise. Usually real low speed, pulling up to an intersection or reversing out of the driveway. It's only every so often - and not even a once a day type noise.

The "golf balls" bit worried me so I've just been out - pulled the golf clubs and all the loose balls and tees out of the back ops: I've emptied EVERYTHING out of it so nothing else can be blamed. The noise is till there - but not every time - I cannot reliably get it to happen when I want to demonstrate it.

I have crawled around under it - pushing, shoving, rattling everything I can find. There are little fiddly bits everywhere - I've replaced a slightly worn exhaust rubber. The shock bushes appear good as new. I even checked that the bottle jack was tightened up in it's holder. ops:

It's a real wierd one - and I had sort of marked it down as a diff wind-up issue - and decided to hassle the dealer. The great thing about this forum is that I can now say things like .. "the know issues with the slip joint and fuel sender unit". I've still got a month of new car warranty left - and another 3 years of Toyota extra care warranty  (We'll see how good it is when it comes to the crunch).

                    Hope all turns out well.

                    Cheers
                    Chippy

                      Matt

Could you imagine what some people must have to believe from the dealer?? Poor buggers.. )
Unfortunately I'm one of those "Poor Buggers" :?
The wording on my indenture papers are "electrical mechanic". Never did get to understand the mechanic bit ops:

Loved tinkering with my EH Holden (showing my age here). Did heaps of mechanical things including timing etc.

Newer cars blow me away when you look under the bonnet. So far I've been happy wiring the Prado's elect brake controller, 2nd battery, Anderson plug etc. Have not ventured into the mechanical things yet.
I'm "thinking" of doing the diff extenders myself however we take delivery of a new off road van next week and I still have so many things to do on the Prado that I may run out of time before our big trip.

Anyway enough of the dribble. I will be interested in your follow up after the 30th.

PS. Have you though about coming up to the Watagans for the NSW get together on 2nd and/or 3rd June?

                      Cheers

Go back to the second page of this thread, you have the known tailshaft spline issue.
Piggy, not sure on the tailshaft, if i get a chance i will ring the dealer tomorrow. All i know is that it is fixed.
