  • CV shaft leak

    Hi guys,

Noticed a leak that seems to be coming from the CV on the wheel side of the boot. Just curious- is it totally stuffed, could it be the boot has just come loose, and does it need a new boot or a whole new shaft?

Also- what's involved in replacing it? Hard job? I'm half reasonable with a spanner, never replaced one though. Couple of photos here on my photo bucket account.

BMS I'm no expert, but I think you should replace the boot quickly before any damage is done to th CV.

Yeah I gathered as much. Has anyone had one if these replaced by a workshop? Had a quick look in my workshop manual, not sure that its something I want to tackle myself

Is the boot actually torn, or is it leaking out the end? If its coming out the end, just pump some cv grease in there and replace the boot clamp.

Then I agree just pump in some grease and tighten the clamp.

Update- outer boot is split on the top

Booked it in for a new boot on Wednesday. $120, not as bad as I was expecting

It's 15 minutes to whip out a cv by yourself , and take it to a cv/universal place they'll replace both boots for 40$

                So easy

And a split boot won't affect the cv

Whatever you do never get an aftermarket cv , they are so weak it's not even funny , I broke one driving on the road

I bought two complete Drive shafts from REPCO part# NSA995 4 years ago ,they have done over 80000ks now all over oz on and off road, never had a problem with them. They were at least half the price of the Toyota ones as well.

There pathetic! I legit broke one on the road , and 5 minutes after putting one in a mates Hilux he broke it driving out of the driveway. And this was when I was on road tyres.

I'm running 33" muddies on steel rims and absolutely flog it offroad , and havnt broken an original cv.

Just don't go there, repco cv's are terrible

A used one from a wrecker is way better than a new repco one.

Toyota ones don't wear , dosn't matter how old they are they still are boss.

Repco is made of cheap crap, so easy to snap
