  • Manual 6 speed Prado 120? your thoughts

My Prado is an auto but I have a friend looking at a 2nd hand 05 Manual (6 speed version). Would be interested in views from anyone who has one (or had one) on what is particularly good about it & what to look out for.

      Hey Just*Managing

We own a 6 speed manual , the car is easy to drive around town and is good on the highway .

The guys at Rockhampton Toyota advised that it's a good strong box , with none replaced to date in the central qld area (could be due to most prado's are auto's)

The prado will travel on cruise in 6 speed at 70kmph , can overtake safely on overtaking lanes (we normally go back to 5th) . The 6 speed in the manual revs slightly higher than the 5th gear in the auto - example manual 100kmph 2500rpm , auto 100kmph 2350rpm again example only)

I had our prado on a police closed seal road at 195kmph (time trail , under rally conditions & helmets ) .

The only question is , ' are you happy to change gears' ????

      cheers

      M
p.s First gear is a little slow off the mark (great of creeping around the bush , no good for drag racing at the lights)
p.s.s The torque curve is a little different then the auto , about 30nm less - but kicks in at 2500rpm instead of 3800 of the auto) better or worst ?? who knows!

i too have an 6 speed, an 07 model, myself i prefer manuals, its not a quick off the mark as an auto but hey its a 4wd not race car. Bonus you can alway push start a manual.

          matty,
I am not saying you can't, but you may have trouble push starting your diesel :?: :?:
          Cheers,

            Why is that Fazza??

I would have assumed any manual with a key would be able to do it...

That is unless there isn't enough power to fire up the glow plugs but even then it would most likely start on compression alone...??

My thought was both of those
& would be hard to push.
              Has anyone tried

my guess is if there was enough residual voltage left to get some sort of power to things like the immobiliser and some power to the ecu then if you could push it it would start.

It would need that to recognise the key is in the ignition to get past it, but perhaps if it could crank then maybe that is all the spark... it would need :P

I doubt anyone would be all that keen on push starting any vehicle if there wasn't some sort of downward slope.

Push start in 2nd or reverse works best.

cant say i have push started the prado but done it with other cruisers, and i push started my hilux by myslf one time (i was stuck in the bush alone though so there was a bit more inspiration) pushing a car aint to hard if the ground is level, and someone capable behind the wheel hitting the ign and dropping clutch in 2nd at same time.
