Gearbox Rebuild?
It crunches from 4th back down into 3rd. Tryed Nulon G70 and the most expensive Nulon Gearbox oil I could find ($33 p/l) and still crunches. There were metal filings on the drain plug magnet too.

How Long have you left it since changing oils? I had a patrol with crunching gears and it took nearly 1000km before the new vmx oil helped.. Dunno why, but took ages.Comment

Thx everyone, reckon I would rather do a rebuild than buy an unknown 2nd hand... been ripped off too many times i guess! I only just bought the car so not sure how old the gearbox oil is but Ive done close to 1000 ks and no change so far. Im going to go with Gawler Auto Transmissions as they have a good rep from what I hear. Thanks for your comments anyway

Let me know how you go with this Nathan and what the cause is. One would think a worn sycro or similar as mine also crunches from 4th to 3rd and 2nd to 3rd but not always. Might have to change the oil again.Winston.

ask them if we can have a quick look inside to see what it's like
i also want to look at the throw out bearing sleeve to see what is wearing & how to fix it
i build race car transaxles so i have fair idea ( they come with concrete warranty !) just very curious as to how these come apart & what buggers up on them
