would you fit it yourself? If you do be prepared for snapped sump pan bolts - get yourself a 6mm tap if you don't have one.

There is a good transmission place about 200m from my office, I think the time it would take me to fit it, vs the amount I can earn in that time doing overtime means I should pay them.

A lot better mate, I towed it about 160km and I couldn't get the auto trans temp above 75 degrees - I think the manual lockup on the torque converter helped a lot too... interestingly my scangauge showed just over 1L/100km fuel saving on the hwy with the converter locked up.

I had the Nomad valve body fitted before we went to Tassie towing a Tvan camper. I reckon it is a significant improvement. More pressure in the torque converter translates to quicker shifts, more responsive kick down, less slippage in the torque converter which means the Prado feels more powerfull. Tows the Tvan up hills better than before. Overall really happy. Didn't worry about the lockup switch
              Cheers.......Wayne

I have installed one of the torque converter lockup kits and i think that i may have installed in wrong. It does lock the torque converter, but it doesnt hold it in gear. If i am cruising along with the lock on, and the car hits a hill, the car still down changes. However the change is jerky as the torque converter is locked.

Does anyone else have this? I had hoped that it would hold it in gear and stop down shifting while the lockup is engaged.

I am curious to know the answer to this as well.

From what I can deduce from Wholesale Autos' information page, it wont prevent gear changes.

I also get the impression that the manual lock up shouldn't be used to try an save fuel with regular (not towing) on road driving. If you're wanting it to hold its gear up hill, I think you'd need an stand alone (aftermarket) Transmission ECU (TCU) that has said capability.

Mine does the same. It's not designed to hold a gear, only to lock the torque converter clutch up. By locking up the clutch you reduce the temp in the transmission, especially going up hills, but also noticable towing and on sand.

                      Hi Guys

Can locking the Torque Converter be done without the valve body?

Will this give me a slower decent on downhill (Low Range, 1st) with an Auto Trans?

                      Thanks

I believe the standard valve body can lock in any gear except 1st and Reverse

I found no difference in 1st low going down a hill with locking the torque converter, the 120 prado must already lock it by default?
