I'll let you know. Cheers.
    Good on ya Dan,

    Have a good one.

Hope it all works a treat as it has done for me.

We head off tomorrow towing my Cub camper so this is the tow test. Will let you know how it goes in 3 weeks when we get back.

    Cheers all, J

      lock up convertor towing

I can't imagine driving without it now. I lock up the convertor once in second gear and it changes up smooth and direct. Quite a gap between 2nd and 3rd with a smaller gap between 3rd and 4th. Kick downs from 4th to 3rd (eg) aren't an issue. As I've said before, it'll go right down to 40km/hr with slight throttle in 4th, starts to get a little growly! Remember, anytime touch the brake pedal cancels the lock up.
My advice to anyone contemplating... Just do it.
Well guys, we are back from our trip up north of WA and are pleased to advise this is where the torque convertor lock-up really shines.
It is just so much better accelerating away, engaging the lock up once second is selected, and it just pulls so much better without the revving. These 1KZ's prefer to pull (low RPM torque) than rev (HP). hits 3rd and it can then pull easily to 80km/hr without revving the bag out of it and that sets it up for 4th (remember its already locked).
Obviously it isn't necessary to do all that, lighter acceleration will see it change earlier. and pulling it back on the gear lever works a treat too.
All up, its a quantum leap better to drive I reckon.
Fuel economy was better too by around 1/2lt/100. dependant on how much driving is done on the lock up in the lower gears. The more you use it, the better the economy. If just cruising down the highway, nothing changes.
      Cheers, J

          Hi DD,
Been reading through to the end it sounds just what i need , just done a trip from Perth to Exmouth and back towing an off road caravan 2 ton plus ,with a bit of off road and caravan parks in between ,06 Kz it pulled ok once it got going but struggled on the hills a bit ,like to tow at 90 -95 seemed to need the extra gear in the auto box but your set up sounds like a good start to improve things, was getting average of 18-19 lts per 100 ,cant get your diagram to open up, if its not to much bother could you send me a copy of diagram , [email protected] would appreciate it,have you done anything more to improve performance? Been told a snorkle and 2.75 exhaust would help, bit reluctant to put a chip in, its still all standard apart from air bags in the back coils , got 190 ks on the clock now not really sure if i should get the injectors checked out seems to be going ok,especially when i un hook the caravan he he , well thanks again for all the info ,and PP , a wealth of info to be had here , cheers.
          Alan.

            Hi Alan,
we may have passed somewhere up there, as we were at Exmouth also.
Only too happy to help. Will send the email after this.
No, haven't done any power ups, though are doing my research now. What I can tell you is, if your considering a chip, ensure you do the exhaust first, get the chip in and then dyno'd, for best results. United Fuel Injection in Redcliffe are the guys to see. Unfortunately, these things don't come cheap!!!
Mine is a 2003, with 300k on the clock. Still the original injectors etc, but runs fine. Not sure if the injectors should be replaced.
Its interesting reading (on PP) other guys findings on things they have done.
Will report any mods I do on these lines.
            Cheers, Jamie

              Hi Jamie.

While I understand your wiring diagram is for the 120 series Prados is it possible that it would suit my 2000,150 series VX?

Let me know! I'm at [email protected].

              Cheers mate

Hi Jamie. Mines an 03 with 185ks on it, I have just done 3623 ks up around Birdsville here in SA towing a 1180 kg camper and would luv to do anything to try and tame the prados useless cruise control and g/box, your mod sounds very interesting could you also send me the details or possibly get it put up on the site.
                Cheers Mick. [email protected]

I had my auto lecky mate look into it with me but my wires at the TCM are different. Don't have any pink wire on the 3rd plug! Mines an 08 KDJ120 GX D4D, which is the 5 speed auto. He's going to look up the wiring diagrams for me before we go cutting into any wires, which is a bugger because I've got to do some big towing this weekend and was hoping to have it done. Oh well.

I plan on doing my set up slightly different to Jamie's. Mine will be an on/off switch rather than a mom on. Therefore doing away with the brake pedal disengage. I want to be able to keep the TC locked for downhill braking whilst towing to make the most of the engine/compression braking. I have a neat factory style switch that says 'auto lock' to go in the cutout next to the 2nd start button and I will use the 'lo' dash light in the height control as an indicator as previously discussed.

Just got to confirm which wire to cut (not the red one, it's a decoy.....)

MRW82 and Jamie - this has had me intrigued for a while now (years in fact!).

I'd love to activate the rear locker light on my instrument cluster when I have my air locker on - but woudn't know where to start.

Would either of you know where I could access to loom and activate this?
                    Cheers
                    Micheal.

This is the info Jamie came up with for me when I suggested the idea:

He says YES, all harnesses are the same, the plugs just hang around there designated spots. So yours not using the hight control could use the LO light for indication. The "Suspension Control Module" looks like it resides near the glove box near the BCM somewhere. The SCM has 3 plugs go into it. One has 26 wires, one 24 wires and one 30 wires. The wire you would need for the LO light is in the 30 wire plug and is coloured BROWN/BLACK trace. This wire MUST be EARTHED to work, so will require another relay to activate an earth. You cant get activation from the hight control switch in the console as it only sends the signal to the SCM and then it controls the light. Sorry.
                      Cheers, Jamie
