  • Harrop E-locker original switch

For those who installed either a front or rear E-lockers and kept the original Harrop switch could you describe its action?

Sounds silly but I went ahead and installed a rocker switch to match my other switches, the problem with that is you do not get the feedback when the locker is engaged so I'm thinking of putting the original one in?

How does the original one work? Is it push and hold for ie 3 seconds? does a little light turn on only when the locker is engaged otherwise it flashes? please describe.

Also where can i get a switch like that now?

From memory when activated the only indication was the red light that came on. I've since changed it to a Narva carling type switch to match the others I've used - same result.

I'm more interested if the original switch that comes with the locker provides some sort of feedback...similar to what the toyota central locker one? Ie flashes when selected and light stays on when engaged? or does the light on the e-locker comes on when pressed and that's it, no way of knowing whether it was engaged or not.

If there are relay problems there is no way of knowing if the locker was engaged or not

The light stays illuminated on the switch when the locker is engaged and off when its disengaged. No flashing on my switches, just on or off.

What would be great would be to be able to connect to the dash light for the rear locker. - hopeful

I stumbled on a thread the other day that's mentioned connecting to the Height control lights in a non-grande and using LO to indicate locker. There was talk that all the harnesses behind are same across the range, if that's the case, then should be possible if you could track down the diagrams

The Eaton e-locker has no mechanism for giving position feedback. Any indication on the switch or dash is going to show you is whether the switch is open or closed and that voltage is present, not whether the locker is actually engaged.

Thanks mate, I thought that might be the case. Oh well there are other ways of checking if it's engaged

I was aware of that, but it would be a good reminder that the switch is on, without looking down at it specifically.

Well if I accidentally knock mine on with my knee getting in the car (switch's are positioned near the wing mirror control panel) I pretty much know they are on when I can't turn the steering wheel or turn the corner reversing out of my driveway! Bear in mind this is idle revs very low speed. You get instant feedback through your steering wheel that's for sure. You will even notice how 'heavy' the turning and steering becomes on off road surfaces too.

                      Cheers,

I have my switches in the same location but have both my switches wired up to a single kill switch. Cuts of power to both the switches so no accidental engagement to worry about. They only work when the kill switch is turned on.
