I have done plenty of Patrols over the years and am wondering how hard it would be to do on the Prado? CV joints arent too expensive and surely it cant be too hard to fit

If you can do a live axle CV then a Prado CV will be a walk in the park.

Make sure you use the proper, stainless, CV boot clamps..... using cable ties or hose clamps is just BS.

CV Joints
After suspecting, I had a faulty CV joint for a long time ( It some times clicks under load) my passenger’s outer CV joint gave up on the weekend.

It started to make a loud crack noise when on full lock in low range and after some fault finding I discovered it to be a CV joint. :roll:

I have booked it in tomorrow to get the offending joint replaced at the local CV joint specialist.
$340. Including fitting. I will have to see how it turns out in the next few months I suppose.

After market CV joints on a Toyota make be a mistake but time will tell.

Great Question.
I'm no expert but I wouldn't recommend it as you are crunching bearings and metal against metal isn't good.
If it isn't to bad I would drive it to the repairers to get it repaired .

When I broke mine I had no option and drove 6hrs slowly to get mine repaired with the noise coming from the front every time i turned the wheel .
The bearing was stuffed and in peices but didn't cause any damage to the axle.

Further damage could be caused by not replacing it but it would depend on how bad it was. When Leachy broke his it disconnected from the axle and he had no drive on the front wheels. I believe the cur clip may have come off which holds the cv joint in position.
In Short, Get it replaced ASAP.

At this stage it appears I've just got a leaking CV boot, so nothing major but I am gonna get it looked at.
