For quite some time now I've had a squeak/whistle which I haven't been able to locate and stop. It's not engine speed related, it's not gear/driveline speed related, it's not road speed related, it can do it from 100 right down to the point where I stop and the tone/frequency doesn't seem to change. What I have noticed is it comes when the car is loaded up, usually when we're headed away camping. It done it yesterday with a car full of people too, which really annoyed me because I thought I had fixed it by replacing the universal joints. Reason for thinking uni joints was that the squeaking will stop when the car 'lifts' over a bump in the road and can come back when the car settles again. But it's not a suspension squeak, more of a rotational rubbing type sound.
Last time it squeaked on the way away camping and I pumped up the airbags for the drive home and it was silent.
It does sound to be coming from the rear moreso than the front.
Any advice on what I can check to try and fix this thing would be greatly appreciated. It can be fine for months, then we head away for a weekend (car loaded) and it'll bloody squeak, which can be a 3-4 hour trip each way. When it does it, it comes and goes, it's not a constant. (Except it constantly drives me nuts).
