Best 4WD gears

Hi all I asked this in the general questions but never got a response so i thought I might try the correct forum.

What is the best climbing gears in the new prados petrol/manual for longish sand hills where medium and sharp runups are required. In my forerunner it was always low range 4th , 3rd to 2nd depending on length of runnup, incline and length of hill etc. However every vehicle is different and I know the later Jackaroo's best climbing gears in this circumstance is in high range 4wd.

My prado is 2008 V6, Manual GXL.

You will find it very similar to your past experience. Naturally it depends on the firmness of the sand, but the trick is to keep as much momentum as safely possible so you keep on top of the sand instead of digging in. My last Prado was an auto petrol, which is easier in the sand, but you will find low 4 and 3 (and 2 if necessary) will work well. If the sand is fairly firm, you may not need to change out of 4th.
