  • Transmission cooler

    Hi there,
I have 2007 D4D, and I would like to add transmission cooler, as I will be towing a camper trailer around Fraser this summer. I have done it before, but this time I would like to help the transmission a little.
I recall reading somewhere that petrol versions come with transmission cooler from factory, and that the diesel version do not, but that it is possible just to take the one from the petrol version, and install it onto the diesel version. If this is true I was thinking about getting a complete kit from wreckers. Is this a good idea?
If so, I would like to know what should I be asking the wreckers to supply me with, so that I am not missing any tubes or pipes.
    Thank you
    Borec

Really a new one with the hose and fittings isn't that expensive, Repco have them and 10-30% off depends when you go ,get plenty of know how on PP ,
Think the petrol model is only small also.

The petrol one is mounted in the radiator so wouldnt be worth the hassle trying to retrofit. I have fitted an additional Drivetech cooler to mine as the gearbox gets seriously hot at times as shown by the scangauge I have fitted. It costs around $385 fitted and is a neat install just in front of the radiator. Makes a big difference to towing and heavy work offroad/sand driving

Thanks guys, I have started looking into putting Davies Craig cooler, even though I had other plans to spend my money on, like tire spacer etc, but teh cooler seems bit more important especially due to the planned Fraser trip, I just hope Tin still has the mounting brackets.

The trans cooler of the petrol is a separate unit mounted in front of the radiator.

For some reason my factory cooler is inside the radiator. Nonetheless the second/bigger cooler is well worth the investment

That's odd. Are you the first owner?

They all run through the radiator but the petrol's have the external cooler also. Perhaps yours was simply removed to fit the aftermarket one and you forgot it previously had a small factory cooler?
                Cheers

That could be it as I didnt take much notice of it before deciding on an aftermarket unit. The Drivetech one is larger unit apparently. Im seeing 15-20 degree difference on the scangauge
