I ran mine incoming to the top then changed it to the bottom after thinking the ATF would flow back down into the transmission rather than stay in the cooler. It also helps the fluid stay in the cooler longer which I assume would help to lower temps.
Ran from top radiator to top of new cooler. Bottom of new cooler back to original top return on radiator. Flow through these coolers is relatively high so oil won't drain out of the cooler faster than the pump. My way of thinking is the heat rises so put the hotter oil in the top. To be truthfully probably make seven tens of no difference.

Hey Rusty, Nice work! What cooler did you use, do you have the model number? Also, looking at your pics I assume you replaced the OEM one rather than putting your new one in series? Thanks

You have a V6 which came standard with an external cooler, Rusty has a diesel which dont have the OEM cooler.

Andrew is correct as we own the D4D. Cooler is a PWR unit from Repco. Not sure of the part number only it was the one for V8. They had four sizes and this ws the second largest. Next size up was just a little difficult to fit.

Have been away for the last week. Towing the camper approx 1000 kg. Cunninghams gap temp in the torque converter peeked at 98 deg. Before cooler was 115. Main box peeked at 80 deg.

Majority of cruising both are in the 75 - 80 deg mark.

Next job is a fluid change.

My bad, I thougt it was just the nonD4D diesel that did not have a cooler.
Even with OEM cooler I had similar temps towing similar load up Cunningham Gap last Easter.
I think i will upgrade the OEM to a bigger one.

Ok so had a bit of a squizz under there today to see where I can mount the cooler. Doesn't seem to be much room with the aircon pipe bracket on one side and the redarc on the other.

This seems to be the best place for it to fit and still get good air flow. Any thought?

I'll see how I can go making a bracket but I thought I'd see what you guys think first about placement.
Also is there any reason for not using those little pins that come with the cooler to mount it against the air con condenser?

That's where I've got mine, sought of. Just a little higher on brackets, sitting about 25mm from the radiator

                Cheers, Scott

Thanks everyone for the inputs and information. I'm interested in doing this before next big trip. Other than the radiator what plumbing bits do you need?
