Auto Shift Lever Broken

Hi all,

I have an 05 auto diesel. Last week I was changing down manually (towing) and the lever got jammed between 2nd & 1st.

When I moved off I found that there was no more detent between D and 3. It's still spring loaded to D but I have to hold it in 3.

I've dismantled the unit and located a steel pin about 20mm long, which I refitted next to the lever. The problem is that the detent is back, but it jams again between 2 and 1.

Does anybody have an exploded diagram of the shift lever assembly? I've searched high and low for any loose parts but haven't found any.

we had this happen about 3-5 months ago.
lived with for a little bit, but was covered by warranty and replaced.
now notcher than before but you get that.

I had the same thing happen about a month ago. I found out the plastic part that houses the metal 'bullet' had cracked on one side and the 'bullet' kept falling out. I tracked down a wrecked prado and butchered a gear selector assy to get the part I needed. Now working correctly. You need to find out what exactly is causing your problem.

Costs to replace with genuine parts:

Selector assy without top selector plate and electronic module- $290
Selector assy with top selector plate and electronic module (can't get the top selector plate without the electronic module) - $900
Selector assy with top selector plate and electronic modue from wreckers (a bit damaged) - $25.

Geoff the plastic holder on the side of the gearstick is cracked as yours was. Why it happened is beyond me! There was plenty of grease on all the sliding parts.

My shifter is now broken as it wont stay in third.

Ive tried many wreckers and it seems very hard to source a 4 speed shifter.I might have to go into it and take a look to see exactly whats going on.

Has anyone got some info/photos of how they took the shifter mechenism apart to find the problem.Thanks
