  • Downhill Assist in GXL

    Hey,
Anyone know if its possible to fit Downhill Assist Control in a GXL???
I believe it works in conjunction with the cruise control. Just wondering
if anyone has ever looked into this yet. I will eventually get the CD from
Toyota with wiring diagrams to check it out and have a tinker.....

I would have thought its a lot more than just the cruise bit?

It operates actuators on the braking system and stuff all mounted on the firewall?
I would have thought the GXL and VX etc were differently built to cut costs? For example a VX / Grande does not have LSD as it uses the traction control to vary power to different wheels.
A GXL with an LSD wouldnt be able to do this? Am I right?

I dont know if the DAC uses braking, but i'm thinking it works like, for example,
when you are on the freeway with cruise control engaged, going downhills,
the Prado seems to do a good job of not accelerating and holding speed,
whereas if you were to go down the same hill with no cruise, it will pick
up speed very quickly. I know that to save money, a lot of car manufacturers
use the same wiring harnesses in base to top models, just not using the
whole harness in base models ( explaining a lot of empty plugs when one
removes dashes, etc.) anyway, this is just a theory.... Im probably
wrong, but I think its worth investigating as it would be very useful in an auto
going down hills off road. Just another thing, my old mans Calais has
a fuel display for current l/100km on the dash and I have noticed that
when on cruise and going downhill, the display drops down to 0.0l/100km
indicating it cuts down fuel supply to maximize engine braking. Maybe DAC
works on the same theory ???? sounds good anyway . I'm interested
in what others think. Post away.

      Mark.

      P.S. Thanks Team Piggy

DAC on the VX and Grande is integrated in the EBD/ABS package. When engaged the vehicle is at idle revs and does increase marginally like any non DAC vehicle, but with a level of control from DAC, it will at times accelarate slightly under brakes and load to achieve greater engine braking
It independantly brakes each wheel and makes a lot of use of the traction control in signalling and operation
I would very much doubt it could be acitivated without the ECU's from a Vx or grande. In saying that i would suspect the wiring harness are the same, how you would overcome the LSD I have no idea, I would think it would be cheaper and simpler to maybe buy a VX...LOL

Thanks for the help fellas, I will have to live without DAC. Maybe a VX will do next time.......
