Ok after having the Prado out in some little stuff on the weekend it became apparent that the low range in them sucks. Does anyone know if you can get a set of reduction gears for them? I have now put them on my list as I can see me breaking something with the speed these things do in low 1st.

hi. iv looked into this myself. what you can get from america is a spliter box that bolts on the back of the gearbox. it has a reduction ratio of 4.0:1. so you can select from either the the standed 2.566:1, 4.0:1 or both, 6.566:1. but you'll have to stuff around buy langhtening the front drive shaft and shortening the rear shaft and probly modify a cross member. plus it was made for the FJ cruiser and there mite be a different in the gear boxers anyway. but im pritty sure there the same.
just to replie on the comment about you saying the crawl ratio sucks. one reason way i drought my TD manual prado was because compared to similar 4wds its really good. i had a quick look around the net and this is what i got.
TD manaul prado, 1st 4.171 x low 2.566 x diff 3.909 = CR 41.8:1
Petrol auto, 1st 3.727 x low 2.566 x dif 3.520 = CR 33.520:1
TD Pajero 5door, 1st 4.234 x low 1.9 x diff 4.1 = CR 33.49:1
TD triton , 1st 4.313 x low 1.9 x diff 4.1 = CR 33.59:1
Jeep Grand Cherokee petrol, 1st 3.59 x low 2.72 x diff 3.55 =CR 34.6:1
Wrangler petrol , 1st 4.46 x low 2.72 x diff 3.21 =CR 38.9:1
rubicon , 1st 4.46 x low 4.00 x diff 4.1 = CR 73.144:1
Patrol petrol/ TD, 1st 4.556 x low 2.02 x diff 4.1 =CR 36.82:1
Landcrusier 200 , 1st 3.53 x low 2.618 x diff -CR 36.86:
if you drive a TD 6speed prado its pritty good other wise its on pair with most other 4x4.

Boof a man with a need for low speed !!
This accessory will appear about the same time as the 6" lift
I agree L1 is way to fast !! i looked into it and found those available are either inferior to the OME gear and/or may not mess true.
Sorry crammy but I would disagree, I beleive the M6 L1 D4D is almost 2x too high. As with the standard engine braking, I think toyota made the comprimise for the on-road drivers. Some people already complain H1 is too low and they need to change gears to quickly !!!
I think residente is talking about the overdrive setup? I had a similar thing fitted to an older vehicle and it was more hastle than it was worth. I wouldn't like to be bouncing between rocks with the amount of lag these these tend to produce ?? not sure thou ?
i came to the conclusion of an exhaust brake but there is no info available with compatibility issues with the D4D."Ooops I just deleted the internet, lucky I was able to recover 99.7% of it out of the bin"

To be honest I've done a few steep rocky hairy sections in L1 and haven't noticed any issues. I've never had to ride the clutch on any occasions in L1 except for crossing a prick of a log bridge with both front and rear tyres climbing at the same time.
Anyway there's my 2 bobs.

ok i'v found afew links that mite interest you. these are the the reduction box thingies i was taking about. you can go for the t-case double and/or a hole new gear driven t-case or both. just deppen on how much $$$$ you have to blow.
but it would have been easier to get a nissan patrol or the like where rock hopper gear are avaliable.

Cheers I will look into them and keep you updated.
Crammy I am comparing it to the Hiluxs 1st low and while I admit its useable in comparison to others imo its way too high and I think is part of the reason so many of these things are breaking diffs. I would be very reluctant to give it a hard time until I get the ratios sorted. It wont be until next but I have put it on the list as a priority.[color=#BF0000]Trail Toy - TJ Wrangler with some mods and some bling
