  • Towing Gear

I picked up my Jayco Outback yesterday and am prepping it for the drive to the Territory after new years.

I have read elsewhere about towing a decent load in overdrive can place too must stress on the gear as it is not built for it.

I have an 05 GXL, 5 Speed Auto. Petrol.

What are the thoughts by everyone in regards to towing in 5th?

    Cheers, Rhet

    Slads

I took it for a bit of a spin around town and what you mention is pretty much what I was doing and what felt the most comfortable.

It's good to hear another opinion though.

    Cheers, Rhet

can't say anthing about reliabilty as have only towed camper (a Goldstream similar but probably a little heavier than your Jayco) on one little trip but I concur with Slads, the cruise is way to aggressive (fine on flat roads though). I also usually change back to 4th before it thinks it should, going gentle on the throttle. I'm happy to loose a few kph before cresting a hill. Of course, if you want to maintain your speed, just kick it in the guts and 'whoosh'
