      From my calls/research:

Reduction gears are on available for the older style gear driven Hilux case.... (Prado and later Hilux cases are chain driven)
I'm led to believe this is not a straight bolt in job (fitting the older style case into a Prado that is)

Another option is a dual tranfer case kit out of the US. Expensive and requires mods to fuel tank and floor/console for second shifter. (Would be awesome though)

There is no "Cheap" option, anything is possible if you want to pay the big $$$.

I looked into this 12 months ago and the $$ people were talking it was looking like it would be cheaper to get a second rig (something like and old GQ) and modify that with current off the shelf stuff for a play car.

Its funny you mention that, It being approved that I can get a play truck in 12mths or so, and it would probably be a GQ due to the affordability and lots of parts available.

Yes, cheap and can be built up to be almost bullet proof. If you do manage to break something at least you still get to drive the Prado to work on monday!!

I am looking into the doubler and other options at the moment for gears, a older style Hilux T case wont work on the 120 as the front shaft is on the wrong side.

i USED to think gq/gu were tuff, but once i got one, and started to research into them and the modifications available i realised they were SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO overrated. Especially there continual comments on how weak toyota cv's were. Then we find out the truth, nissan cv's run the same 27spline spider and balls as toy's and they have the same diameter inner axles. There inner axles are weaker, and have a terrible heat treatment process. The nissan cv's stub axle is 15% smaller in diameter and snap off regularly. The big comeback is "but most winch challenge rigs are nissan's" hey go watch a video of one, they ALL drive without front lockers on then get stuck! then turn the locker on! WTF. Nissan FWH are stupidly weak (<4500ft/lb) so they are the fuse, where AISIN hubs are good for 7000ft/lb+++. Don't get me wrong i still like nissans and it has taken a lot of work to build up a strong one.

                  yeah this is goo,

i had 2inch OME suspension for about 18months and decided to rip it out and upgarade to 3 inch front and 3 1/5 inch rear bilstien to gimme more clearence. My car is allready double locked and its got me places others in bigger rigs aint got purely cos the lockers. so for the cost of the lockers i reckon there one of the best improvements you can get. But tougher n bigger Mmmmmm interesting.

                    FELLA'S,

Ill just post here so I can keep notified of this supposed driveline strength increase for the Prado.....will it suit the current hilux?

I read somewhere last year thou cant for the life of me remember where, that some mob in Queensland was using or modifying Prado CV's to suit the current hilux because they were a thickey diamter or stronger cv's or something along those lines.

                    anybody here about that too?

in regards to crawler gears as mentioned earlier...you can fit an Inchworm Lefty which is a geared transfer case with crawler gears adapted to suit the Prado/Hilux from the US......but your talking dollars.

alternatively, marks adaptors sells an adaptor plate to fit the older hilux geared transfer cases to out rigs....but you'd need to source the transfer case and fit the crawler gears to it.

any clues to this driveline upgrade issue?

does anybody sell a strenghtened steering knuckle for a 3" lift fro Prado's and Hilux's? Ultimate and snake do for thier 4" kits, and in the states they have weld on gussetts but Id prefer a change over unit personally.

                    cheers guys,

As mentioned earlier in this thread, by Boof, the older style gear driven case has the output shaft on the wrong side for the Prado.

Also I believe the adaptor Marks sell is for dual tranfer cases, not fitting an older geared transfer case in place of a chain driven one.
