  • Open front diff

Guys, long story short, i beached the prado today in a sandy creek up at DI point and i only had one front wheel spinning.
Can i confirm that the front diff is open hence if one wheel is off the ground it will spin whilst the other wheel does nothing.

When you get a chance... don't spare us from the long story either .

I hope the beaching caused nothing more than a bit of extra sweat for you.

          Cheers,

Doesn't traction control kick in and stop the wheel spin and resend drive to the other wheel??

ON a traction control model it does, but in sand that can bring you undone as I have found out many times.

I don't have traction control but no help in this case, the long story is their is a track we did yesterday from Rainbow Beach through to teawah beach call the Kings Bore track which was closed but their is a bypass track that we did instead and when you come down on to the beach their is a steep sand track cut into the hill followed by a hard left turn followed by a drop off and then what is normally a shallow creek crossing onto the beach. This is a one way track but apparently eariler in the day some idiots were try to go up the track which would near impossible because of the steepness of it and dug some huge ruts into the creek crossing. Having done this a few times before quite easily, i wasn't taking to much notice of the exit and dropped into the ruts and with non lifted prado i was on the belly wheels spinning, a quick snatch from one of the guys in a camp right next to us and i was out again. No big deal. All the other cars went left and straddled the ruts, so i was the only snatch for the day!! except for the two girls in a hilux towing a jayco pop top, but that is another story.

It is a good run through this track quite challenging in some areas, we could go for QLD PP run through there one day.

I like the sound of that!

Another good lesson that there is safety in numbers. Great to hear it was no real drama.
