  • Auto Trans Selector, No 1st gear.

    Hi guys,

I am experiencing an issue with my 08 GXL Prado Auto, I am unable to lock it in to L 1st gear. When i play with the selector it eventualy will lock out however i think it may be a cable tension issue or similar. Any ideas as i am trying to avoid having to take it to town to the dealer.

Any one else had this issue??

      Alex,

I assume you know it will not go into first until your speed is low enough to use 1st gear.
Once you reach that speed (It it listed in the manual) it should go into 1st and stay there.

Yes i am aware of this and only do it whilst stationary or very slow. But it is a fault as when i move the shifter the light for L doesnt light up 5 out of six shifts and you realy need to move it ruff to get it to engage the light for L and therefore change into L 1st. It has only just started playing last weekend in the snow.

Re: Auto Trans Selector, No 1st gear.

I tried this yesterday and notice the same thing. If I only gently push the selector into 'L' it doesn't register. In fact there are no gear lights selected and no indicator on the dash. The gear box actually is still in '2' though.

I noticed that if I use a slight bit of force it will register 'L'. So my problem doesn't sounds as bad as yours.

I think the selector is all electronic, so from that point of view I would say that the selector doesn't quite contact a micro switch enough.

I also noticed today that the problems isn't as apparent. Maybe temperature related.

This is my exact issue however mine is not temp related but could be ambient temp related as it was fine this week in the afternoon but couldnt get it register at all during the heat.

I will book it in to Melbourne Toyota next week but its tough being without it for two weekends.
