Re: RE.2nd start switch
Hi Tinkera,
This has been discussed in the topic 2nd start button.
Unfortunately, a search of the forum won't find it, since I believe the search engine won't attempt to match against search terms of 3-letters or less. In these cases, try a google search similar to: 2nd start site

Hi LFaR. Thanks for the heads up searched high and low.Still not clear on change down though. Will it completly lockout 1st gear until switch is turned off :?: If you start in 2nd start and the going gets hard does this mean you are losing the use of 1st gear when the revs require auto to change down to 1st :?: CHEERS TINKERA2004 DuneGLX UPDATE V6 FACTORY BULLBAR IN CABIN DUAL BATTERY SYSTEM ECLIPSE SAT NAV.REV CAM.DVD. Re: RE.2nd start switch
For start only. In the D4D, it starts effortlessly in 2nd and in all my ascents, it's never needed to drop back to 1st. On the downhill steeps, when I have just want to crawl under engine compression, I can still knock it into L in LL and it will change down.Originally posted by tinkeraHi LFaR. So the answer is "no"... you don't lose 1st gear for general use. It only affects the start.

Re: RE.2nd start switch
Oh, one more thing occurs to me, and something I keep meaning to test...
I suspect that anytime you move the auto-lever manually into 1st gear, then you will be in 1st gear, regardless of the 2nd start. That may also be the case when you are starting with 2nd Start and have the lever in 1st. I suspect the lever will override the 2nd start button.
Now, who has tested that already? If my wife allows me to use the car tomorrow, I'll try to remember ... ummm.... what was I saying again
?

Re: RE.2nd start switch
On a 4x4 course we actually tested this out. Moving the gear lever into first will engage first, and as soon as you move it to a higher gear it will jump into 2nd. Useful when needed to crawl into a large gully using Low First then to get up the other side just push the gear into 2nd and up you go in 2nd. The gully (more like a river bed) we tested this in had a flat area at the botton so no dramas in changing gears.
