Hey Locked_120v6,
That must have been expensive replacing all 6 coil packs !!
I have also noticed the vibration increase slightly in speed over the time I have owned the car, always 5th gear. I have tried to reproduce it in every other gear, with and without the center diff locked. It only happens in 5th gear. Driving around in 4th would just annoy the hell outa me !
Seems strange if it is the torque converter....if the clutch or something else in it is rooted (warped or whatever), I would think it would affect every gear, and you would feel the vibration in every gear.
My recurring bad feeling about this problem is we'll never really know ! Most mechanics are just guessing (no offence if you are a mechanic reading this) at what the problem is, you really need someone who is intimate with the 120 transmission, and rebuilds them for a living. As far as I know, that doesn't happen much with prados ! We'll prolly know in 20 years time after blokes have been rebuiding em for a while.
Keep us all posted about your progress. Make sure you photograph everything in your gearbox and transfer case if you pull them out for servicing, get everything measured, and see if anything is out of tolerance, big expensive job !!
Good luck !
Best
