Leaking front diff

Doing the service today & checked the front diff. There seems to be a small oil leak coming from the drivers side area. To narrow it down further, the exact location is between the diff housing & the cv joint. Does anyone know what seal needs replacing & is it a hard/expensiv job to do.

Replaced the left hand inner axle seal on my 90 series in July 2008. Seal was $26, oil was $12 and labour was $132. $170 including GST. Hopefully thats a bit of a guide for you.

Incidentally, I had to have the same seal replaced in August last year as it started leaking again. Suspect it was the angle of the CV after installing upgraded suspension. I have since had the front lowered back closer to factory standards and so far have had no problems, but since then vehicle has been a shopping trolley so hasnt really been put to the test. Hopefully one day I'll get to use it in anger again.

thanks rainman, got a few days off this week so will call into toyota to see what theyare going to charge. can already see the $$$$ flying out the window.

If it is the same set up as the 90 series you will find that the drivers side and passenger side seals are different.

The drivers side sits just inside the diff housing whilst the passenger side goes in a little deeper. Get this wrong and they will leak prematurely.

I simply undid the bolts that retain the spindle/hub to the bottom suspension arm and pulled the shaft outwards.
