  • Factory AT Breather Pipe??

I've had my transmission/rear diff and centre box breathers done by a workshop. I've had a look at all three of them last night whilst washing off the car. Does anyone know if the AT comes with some sort of factory rubber pipe going upwards?? It seems like the workshop have connected their tube onto a pipe which looks very factory to me as it's attached to a factory plastic pipe holder and not a cable tie like they've done on the other breathers.

Also I can't even put my hand around the centre box so i can't even check if the tube is properly attached to the box. Any other ways of checking this?

    Re: Factory AT Breather Pipe??

    HI

I have just installed a billet race craft quad breather set on my 09 D4D manual however the only breather that i could successfully do was the rear diff, as the front diff has a hard pipe coming out of it that snakes it way up to the passenger side wheel well and as for the gear box and transfer case ones i cant even locate them so im not really any better off. Im told to access the g/box and transfer case breathers through the center console under the gear sticks boots but not sure if that is true......

Do you know if the front diffs hard pipe just unsrews or another mod is needed to attach ???????????

Have a look at the Diff Breather thread. I think it shows all of the breather spots on the first or second page.

As fvar as accessing the breather tubdes from the gear stick I think this is only on a 90 series. Here is an article on LCOOL regarding this:

        Re: Factory AT Breather Pipe??

        Hi ljc79
I have just completed the raised breather mod. Most of my knuckles remained unscathed, but was challenging to access A/T & Transfer breathers with lifted Prado.
As you have stated the front diff has a solid tube, if you follow this you will discover the clamp that holds the rubber tube to it. This clamp is one of those compression spring types. The front breather is actually visible from the left side of the engine bay near the fuse box.
The front diff does not actually move, ie. mounted to the chassis so minimal slack is required when routing the breather line. The rear diff however needs a nice loop of slack line to allow for suspension travel.
        Hope this helps.
        Regards Troy

              Hi Guys
Yes that is correct D4D, The battery tray is an ARB unit.
The ARB kit is designed for the diesel 120 series Prados, but I modified it to mount the charcoal canister on to it and also had to shift the ballast resistor a smidgen.
The battery is an Exide deep cycle @ 65a/h ED50.
Note our Prado is a 2003 GXL, later models have a larger canister.
              Cheers Troy
