  • Wheels not spinning

Guys,,the other day i got half way up a sand dune and could not get any further, when i checked the wheels i noticed that they were not spinning no matter how much boot i gave it, I was not bellied out and i tried the same hill in low range ,same result.I put it into reverse and went back down the dune.I have an auto transmission and wondered if that could be causing the problem.ANY IDEAS WOULD BE WELCOME cheers

    Re: WHEELS NOT SPINNING

Do you have traction control ?

If so turn it off in the sand.

        Re: WHEELS NOT SPINNING

hey Chugger, did you only look at the drivers side wheels, if the passenger side wheels had no traction they would spin and the drivers side would do nuthin. this situation is easily rectified with a couple of diff lockers.

I can get mine to do the same thing starting off in sand or river bed when in high range. I just assumed that i was loosing all the power through the torque converter - it doesn't happen in low range.

Sounds like the clutches in the auto transmission may be slipping under load. I'm sure Toyota can perform some stall tests to determine if this is the case.
