  • 6 speed gear lever insulator rubber making gear lever sloppy

I have a V6 2005 6 speed manual and when I purchased it in February this year I noticed the gear lever was very sloppy. I ended up removing the shift lever and attempted to fill the gaps in the shift lever with sikaflex 252, letting cure for 3 days before installing again. It is much better but still not as rigid as it should be. I am thinking of either welding a washer to join the top half of the shift lever or drilling and tapping the top sleeve and installing grub screws to clamp the outer to the lever shaft. I believe that this is a common problem and am surprised at how little info I can find on a repair, as well as the gear lever seems no longer available otherwise I would just replace it. Any advice/ comments welcome.

Removed gear lever, drilled two holes in the outer shell with the rubber in it. Filled with JB weld in August. All good still.
