  • ARB Air locker versus TJM Pro Locker

    Hi All
Am looking at fitting a rear air locker 2005 GXL, can you shed some light on the ARB versus the TJM air locker, what are the pro's and cons of each, and what do they cost.

    lockers

    Hi Frank,
I've had ARB lockers in my last two cars (hiluxes) and found them to be great Not sure about the activation on the TJM product is it an air compressor? With the air locker your getting the bonus of an air compressor, cost was about $1800 for the rear and a few hundred less for the front locker as the air compressor was installed with the rear locker. Another point to consider is why put it in the back? put it up the front that way you will have rear LSD and front locker, ie you will get more traction for your dollar. or go all out and get front and rear, but this will cost you over $3000.

If the advertising is correct then the prolocker is a technically better solution than the airlocker.

Ive recently had one fitted to the rear (after a long wait), but havent really been able to use it yet... I will in a couple of weeks during our cape york trip

I never liked the idea that the arb lockers could leak oil through the air line, the tjm design doesnt have this issue.

I guess only time will tell...

I already had a black ox compressor all that was required was a conversion kit to add the air resevoir . The black ox is a much more hard core compressor than the dinky arb underbonnet one ;-)

BTW, tjm will bring out a front locker. now that ARB has they have no choice

        Hi all
I not sure how they fit them but can you have a locker and keep the limited slip feature?
        Same dif modified with locker.
What about detroit lockers, Are they any good.
My limited slip is very limited when one wheel leaves the ground, which sort of defeats the purpose,What I need is more suspention travel and a lock dif.

          G'day Russ,

Fitting a locker involves replacing the internals to the diff, replacing the LSD function. There's a fairly good description on the ARB website.

I enquired on the price difference approximately 18 months ago. it was 2500g for 1 tjm locker Vs 1900 for 1 ARB locker. The front locker usually cost more than the rear. With twin TJM lockers fitted cost close to 4500 and for twin ARB fitted, 3500.

I run a ARB in the rear of the Lux and have given it a hard time after purchasing it secondhand. I have had none of the oil leak or seal dramas you hear of, I will be putting them in the Prado for me the TJM still has to prove itself and I am yet to find a local dealer I am happy with.

the TJM locker has been around for years.

It is basicly a jackmac locker. far better design than the arb one.

                    Michael.
