  • completed knackered gearbox!

    Hi All

New member here with a problem !

I have a 2007 Prado, diesel with automatic transmission. Noticed that the transmission was playing up - occasionally lost drive, then seemed to 'lurch' forward suddenly... I had the transmission fluid replaced in the hope that it would cure it... it did, for a little while, then the problem got worse.

Took it into the dealer, who has diagnosed a what in technical terms is a completed f*****d gearbox and quoted over 9,000 US to replace all the plates, etc!!

I am hoping that that is not the only option so if anyone knows where to obtain a Prado gearbox, either new or secondhand, or can suggest anything else I would be grateful!

    Cheers.

    Hi Panamajack,

Sorry to hear about the knackered gearbox. I'm going through a similar thing with my son's Rav4. Though in his case, the car is 15 or so years old.

I don't have an answer to your question, but I am wondering what have you learned as to the cause - a 2007 vehicle should not be having this kind of problem.

Best of luck with it and I hope you find a reasonably priced replacement.

I don't have a fix for your problem but I am having the same type of trouble with my 2004 Grande 120 gear box. I am being told $5,000 starting price to fix it. Went for a drive to Stcokton and stared to have delay getting into third and hesitation dropping into reverse. Took it back to place of purchase who said that first $1000 will be covered by Harrier Warranty. It has now been close to two weeks and a cause has not been identified.

2004 Prado Grande with, wait for it, 90,000K's . I think if there are more of these experiences around that maybe Toyota should be brought into the story.

      Any advice/information greatly appreciated.

Would it be cheaper to convert it to manual?
