  • auto trans maintainence

    Hi
in the past, the cars with auto transmission i've driven, require some sort of maintainence i.e pull a dipstick to check fluid level, change auto fluid every 40,000 km etc.
My new D4D Vx seems to require none of the usual maintainence I'm used to.
The service schedule lists changing the auto fluid only if driven in "extreme' conditions
    Is this right?
Is the auto trans a maintainence free "sealed unit"?

"Yes" to all of your questions Bernie.
    That is Toyota's claim.
No mention in their service book either.
You can however, check & top it up through one of the plugs in the sump, I can,t remember which one at present.

    Cheers

Lots of manufacturers do that now, i.e. sealed for "life" auto gearboxes.

Let me tell you, the fluids that they use these days in the autos are pretty good, but not good for 10 years!

I would recommend changing the auto trans fluid every 3 years just to be on the safe side. And if you tow a lot, maybe every 2nd year.
