Just to bring some life back to this old thread.
I have had the hid conversion in my Prado now for 12 months. Whilst the light it gives off is fantastic on two occasions I have had the globe pop out of their plastic holder. This has happened after traveling down corrugated roads. The omly way I knew they had popped out was when I turned the lights on the globe was touching the plasti globe housing and it melted it causing the inside of the headlight to smoke up.
I bought these on ebay and contacted the seller who told me I fitted them incorrectly. I was motor mechanic for 17 years and I fitted many a globe in my time so I think I know what I'm doing. He was just interested in selling me another set which I told him he could stick where the sun don't shine . Now I have 2 smoke stained headlights and no support from the seller. So I will be going back to the standard type.
Anyone else struck this as I see them for sale in lots of stores now

I previously installed H4 HIDs to my falcon and upon buying my 120 I was wrapped to know the previous owner had already done this. I was disappointed to be honest with the HIDs but after 4 months one light failed and I had to get replacement bulbs at short notice. I went for the Phillips extreme vision which put out more light but not as white. I now know why I wasn't so happy with the HIDs as the guy before didn't remove the metal cover protecting the bulb during transit. It covered 60% of the bulb. The better half likes the HIDs so I'll look to get a good kit and fit them when I get around to it.

I've got a MARS Angel Eye Projector headlights and HID low beam kit installed in my car. Blown 2 fuses when using them. Replaced both fuses with 15A fuses that I got from repco. Been working ever since.

Point is, if you have HIDs, be prepared to replace your fuse with a larger amp rated one as the stock 10A ones couldn't hold it.

Edit: also they can really suck the juice out of the battery (car always needed a jump starter to start). Ever since we got a new battery, it's been fine. Actually.. Idk if it does affect the battery so ill just put this out there too for you guys just to watch out on.

Yeah sorry if I had ever recommended this kit with bad results . Ive had the kit in for a while now and have one bulb blow on me. I too contacted the same seller and got no response. In any case I got two new globes from another seller and changed both over. Have had no problems with it all since, touch wood. I still like the upgrade and it does put out a better light than standard. Maby that's why the kit is so cheap compared to site other than eBay, dunno but id suggest stay away from the seller based on customer support.

                  Cheers,

i brought a set off this guy
1 week later the bulb came out of the holder, told him & he sent me a new one
2 weeks later same thing on the other side
i told him again and asked fro 2 extra bulb holders and he said they wont work so he send them back & he would refunded my money

                    i got lucky i guess

the lights were better with them in, but i went and adjusted them ( while the bulb was out of it holder, couldnt quite see it)
when i refitted it back in my lights were way off so i played around trying to get them right

                      HID headlight for 120 prado

I know a lot of the rally guys have had issues buying from this guy, reliability seems to be pretty poor.
A few got spotlight upgrade kits where the ballast was put into the housing and secured with silicone. Ultimately vibration breaking it loose so it moved around and broke the reflector internally in the end.

So installed tonight. Was very easy but the silicon is a waste of time. Used foam to wrap up the ballast and squeezed it in. Will check how it's going in a couple of weeks and see if I need a new option. Could have had plugs for the connection from the car to the ballast instead of the metal blades, not sure why they don't just provide a plug.
Light output was good - not quite as good as I had hoped but good enough for the $. Start up time was fine, seems max output was reached within a second or two.
Will try to upload a before and after compare photo.
For $90 I'm happy enough, but early days...

Hi guys, I'm new to Prado and pp.

Firstly great forum! Lots of great info on here for the new Prado enthusiast!

I have just purchased a 04' GXL V6. Last week I received the first complaint from the wife about how bad the std Prado headlights are, she is used to driving a 08' Mitisubishi Evo X with factory HIDs. After trawling through the info on pp and elsewhere online, it is safe to say that HIDs in reflector type headlights is a big no no and even going down the route of purchasing complete aftermarket projector headlamps not a good idea either (http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...&daysprune=-1).

However, during my travels I did come across this small business in Newcastle called Micks Retro Fits. Seems that he is successfully modifying the std reflector headlights with great results. Hate to post a Patrol link on the pp forum, but this is the easiest way to show you his work (he has fitted some to a 90 series Prado about halfway down the link). http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/micks...trofits-90879/

The other option I found on here was the Narva plus 120 globes. Found them for $39 on ebay(http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/290921936...84.m1438.l2649). I ll keep this in my back pocket if the HID route doesn't work out. I would much prefer HIDs having them on my other vehicle.

Anyway, I am going to contact him and get some $$$ and options. I'll be sure to report back here how I go. Anyone heard of him before? or has this been raised in the forum and I have just not come across it? Keen to hear any thoughts/opinions. I note that HIDs without headlight washers is illegal, however, if they are functioning correctly and not disrupting other drivers I am prepared to give it a go!
