I use a redarc bcdc 1220 to charge my AUX and it is worth every cent. just make sure all your earth's are common to each other! The best spot i found is on the engine bay, driver side panel right next to the AUX battery if you have it installed behind the drivers side headlight!!
you will see the earth terminal there with a few wires connecting to the ground here.

the alternator wont charge the AUX to 100% without a dc/dc charger on the d4d engine!

Also if you fit a redarc bc/dc 1220 caharger make sure the fuses are the automatic ones that trip if the current heats up to much. i found this out after the fittment of two blade fuses inline melted...

I have pictures of how i mounted and connected if you like?!

I suggest you read a few more threads on the D4D, maybe even search for 'Voltage Booster'...

        Hi Hork,
Interested in seeing a few of those photos, I am just about to fit my Redarc BCDC 1225. What size auto reset switch did you use, and I assume you had one for each battery?
        Cheers

Hi The Hork and as D4D suggested, you really need to do some more research before making statements like that.

Again as D4D also suggested, if you fitted an Alternator Voltage Booster fuse, for around $45 and an Optima Yellow Top as your auxiliary battery, you will actually FULLY charger the battery, from a very low state, in a shorter time then a 40 amp, note that’s a 40 amp DC/DC device can do, and your 20 amp DC/DC device will actually taking far longer to fully charge a Yellow Top than your alternator can do.

DC/DC devices are no more than another option, they are NOT the end all and there are far cheaper ways to achieve better results.
